New Monbiot

The latest from George Monbiot:
Deny the British empire's crimes? No, we ignore them

  1. The West should not forget what we did to people under colonial rule under any circumstances, because for those people that history is recent, real and ever-present. We cannot hope to understand people who were colonised if we forget that the colonisation happened.

  2. We shouldn't forget either the colonization of Africa particularly North Africa from Islam in the century after Mohammed's death. That has left a huge legacy in the continent and one that continues to be played out in civil war and atrocities. Hard to think now that Egypt was not always an Arab country.
